SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College’s Community Education program is offering a women’s self-defense class beginning in January.
R.A.D. (Rape, Aggression, Defense Systems) will be held Tuesdays, Jan. 27-Feb. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Trutter Center on the LLCC-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.
It costs $25 per person and includes the R.A.D. Systems workbook/reference manual. Registrations are being accepted now.
The manual outlines the entire physical defense program for reference and continuous personal growth. Lifetime retraining is free.
Females 11 years and older are invited to learn how to protect themselves in dangerous or uncomfortable situations.
Call LLCC Admission and Registration at 217-786-2292 or online at www.llcc.edu/community-education to register.
Students under 18 must have a waiver signed by a legal guardian. Those under 17 must be accompanied by an adult female guardian at each class session.
Previous participants are welcome to attend the course at no cost.
The R.A.D. Systems program of realistic self-defense tactics begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing to the basics of hands-on defense training.
A certified R.A.D. instructor will teach participants defensive concepts and techniques they can use against various types of assault.
