To All LLCC Graduates…
Graduation is slowly approaching for many college students.
I’d like to be the first to say, “Congratulations!”
As a college student, there is almost nothing more relieving than this moment.
You’ve already endured 12 years of awkward “phases” in high school and now you get to declare who you are without the black lipstick and experimental hair dyes. This phase in life rewards you with a degree, instead of a face full of acne.
The first achievement you’ve had that your pre-pubescent body doesn’t disagree with!
Take pride in this achievement while you still can, because your next big achievement is retirement (and people don’t give you money at retirement; they take it away).
You’ve achieved so much, and you deserve to let everyone know.
Congratulations, graduates.
Thank you for inspiring us college students and showing us the hard work is well worth it!
Professors’ advice to graduates:
Tim McKenzie: “Congratulations! It has been amazing to see how you have changed. Many of you came in nervous and unsure, and it has been a real pleasure to see you grow. I wish you could stay a few more years, because those of you graduating are the ones who make teaching fun.
“I wish you the best. For those of you moving into careers, I hope you use the lessons you learned. For those who took philosophy courses, I hope you can use your understanding of ethics, world religions and critical thought in your interactions.
“For those of you transferring to a four-year university, I encourage you to take advantage of every opportunity to learn, not just in the classroom. Get involved in clubs, activities, go to guest speakers, and find an internship. You won’t have that many opportunities in the working world. You’ll make friends, and those who get involved will have the best opportunities for success in finding a career.
“In the end, I simply say — Congratulations! You’ve earned this honor. You have proven you can do well. Now, go out and make us proud.“
David Reynolds: “LLCC Graduates: Congratulations one and all. Well done! I wish you the very best as you continue to pursue your education and find your career path.
It is a big wide world out there, though. Explore a little, read good books, listen to music, learn about the public issues of your time, vote, engage in your interests and hobbies, and relish the community you have with friends and family. “
