SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College winter sport seasons have come to the end.
The women and men’s basketball teams played their last games of the 2015-2016 season right before the start of spring break. Both teams started training in September and have been playing strong for six months.
During the regional tournaments, the men’s team competed in Champaign, Illinois, at Parkland College and lost to Danville Area Community College in the first round.
The women’s team competed in Lincoln, Illinois, at Lincoln College and beat John Wood Community College in the first round, than lost to Parkland College in the second round.
The women’s basketball team ended up 18-11 overall for the season and 5-5 in conference play. The women’s team started the season off with a 0-3 record after the team learned to tie their shoes they went on an 11-game winning streak. After winter break, they started conference play and broke even with wins and losses going 5-5.
The Lady Loggers will be losing five sophomores starters Gretchen Hobbie and Rachel Alde; and Cheyenne Cherry, Sydney Jarrard and Eloise Sneddon.
The Loggers had two members earn All-Region recognition sophomore Rachel Alde (12.4PPG) and freshman Kylie Crouse (11.8PPG).
“I felt that this season was such a great season. We worked together as well as a team and worked really hard every day. We got better as the year went and continued to do great things. I miss playing with the sophomores, but I’m very excited to see what next year brings.”

The Men’s Basketball team ended the season with a record of 16-15 overall and 4-6 in conference play. Unlike the ladies season the Men’s wins and losses were pretty consecutive throughout the season. The Logger’s will be losing four sophomores Tyler Burdine, Edward Longmeyer aka “Eddie”, Riley Spencer, Marshall Corbin. Edward Longmeyer (21.0PPG) was selected as an All-Region Player and made All-Conference.
Both the Women’s and Men’s Basketball team had a good seasons. Before graduation, while the air grows warm, both teams will be spending their last days with their sophomore teammates before they move on to better things. The signing period is also right around the corner. So new incoming freshmen will be welcomed to the Logger’s family this spring!
