The Academy of Lifelong Learning at LLCC will be giving away 1,000 copies of  Lab Girl”, the 2016 memoir by geochemist, geobiologist, and professor Hope Jahren. The event is part of the National Endowment for the Arts ‘Big Read’ event in Sangamon County. The book describes the plight of many scientists who struggle to find funding to conduct research in an already saturated field. The memoir also discusses the issue of sexism that female scientists face in the field.

LLCC students can pick up a copy of the book – as well as a seed planting kit – from display tables on campus starting today until April 30, or while supplies last. Tables will be located at the entrances of A. Lincoln Commons, Logan Hall, Millennium Center, and Workforce Careers Center.

Books will also be made available at LLCC Outreach Centers in Jacksonville, Beardstown, Taylorville, and Litchfield.
