SPRINGFIELD – Amanda Monke, a student at Lincoln Land Community College, is one of four recipients statewide of the 2015 Illinois Community College Student Activities Association (ICCSAA) scholarship.
Monke, an English major, won the $250 scholarship based on a reflection essay she wrote about the Fall 2014 ICCSAA Leadership Conference she attended in Alton, Ill.
The essay addressed how she will use knowledge gained at the conference in her student leadership activities at LLCC. It also discussed how being a student leader will impact her life after LLCC.
Monke, a Springfield native, has served as president of the English Studies Club and vice president of the Honors Program Student Organization. She is also Phi Theta Kappa, the Honors Program Council, and a student worker in the LLCC Public Relations and Marketing Office.
She will transfer to Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis after graduating from LLCC this May. She plans to become an English professor.
This is the second-straight year that an LLCC student has received the scholarship.
