SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land knows how to shut someone down, but it’s still not enough.
Justin Taiylor was averaging 20.3 point per game for Illinois Central College. But he had a season-low 8 points versus Lincoln Land.
Despite this, the Loggers fell to conference foes ICC, 64-59, on Saturday, Jan. 31.
“Tonight we just didn’t make those two or three plays we needed,” said LLCC head coach Chad Jones.
The Loggers were led by Eddie Longmeyer. He had a game-high 16 points in 28 minutes off the bench.
Illinois Central sophomore guard Callen Beadle led his team with 15 points and six assists.
Taiylor, the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, also had one rebound. He is averaging 6.8 per game.
“We just did a whole bunch of help defense on him,” said freshman forward Edin Mehmodovic. He finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Loggers were down 55-56 with 1:50 left in the game. ICC’s Jacob Schuette made two free throws with 1:33 left, after fouling on a layup attempt.
Loggers’ Michael Cameron then made a half court violation, capping the Cougars’ win.
LLCC moves to 13-8 on the season. The team is in last place of the MWAC, after going 0-3 in conference play.
ICC ended its three-game losing streak. It is now 14-9 on the season.
The Cougars are 1-2 in conference games, and in fourth place in the conference.
Lincoln Land’s next game is against Parkland College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 4 in Cass Gym.
