SPRINGFIELD – Lincoln Land’s all about that defense. Especially its full-court press.
The LLCC women’s basketball team used its full-court press to force 20 Lincoln College turnovers in the Loggers’ 72-39 win over the Lynx on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, in Cass Gym.
“Our defense led to our offense,” LLCC coach Gary Albert said.
Logger freshman post player Gretchen Hobbie had seven of her team’s 15 steals. Hobbie tied her season-high in steals, previously set against Millikin University’s junior varsity team on Nov. 18. Eloise Sneddon (2), Kelsey Forsyth (2), Rachel Alde (1) and Molly Sloman (3) had the Logger’s remaining steals.
Hobbie also had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the game.
Rachel Alde had game-high 17 points for LLCC.
The Lynx were led by freshman guard Emily Johnson, who had a 9 points.
LLCC shot 40.9 percent from the court, while Lincoln shot 28.3 percent.
The Loggers started the first 11 minutes of the game on a 21-6 run in which the Lynx had six turnovers.
“Our kids made a lot of plays defensively, and that was the boost to get us that early lead,” Albert said.
The Loggers ended the first half with a 44-15 lead. They led by a game-high 42 points (70-28) with about 5 minutes left in the game, after Cheyanne Cherry, who finished with 6 points, hit her second 3-pointer.
The Lincoln Lynx also had a season-low two assists in the game.
Lincoln College’s losing streak moves to 12. The team moves to 3-22 on the season and 0-6 in conference play.
The Loggers ended their two-game losing streak. They now have a 11-13 record in the season and are 3-3 in conference play.
