Active number of chemical in marijuana, something to do with Hilter’s birthday, Holland’s teatime…well depending on who you ask what does 420 mean. It means something a little different to those who are pot smokers.
Celebrated all over the world today is 420 or “Pot Smoker’s Day”.
In a California forest, in Point Reyes is where some believe it got it’s start. And of course from some help from the band The Grateful Dead, or also known as “The Dead”. In Oakland the week of Christmas in the year of 1990 a man by the name of Steven Bloom while walking through a parking lot which is actually called “The Lot” which is where hippies would meet before a Dead concert. When someone handed him a flyer for the band. And it read: We are going to meet at 4:20 on 4/20 for 420 ing”. The flyer came with an address and a back ground story.
In the back ground story it said that in San Rafael, California in the late 70’s is when it all started. And it just happens to also be the police code for Marijuana smoking in progress. Course the Dead Heads picked up on this saying “Let’s go 420, Dude!”. Although after Bloom had done some research he found out that’s not correct at all. It had nothing to do with a police code.
It actually started when in San Rafael High School friends who called them selves “Waldos”, coined the phrase, in 1971.
A few actually were interviewed and were called Waldo Steve, Waldo Dave, and Waldo Patrick. Because after all at this time Marijuana was still illegal. Now today, pot smokers celebrate all over the world because of their actions back then.
Officials at Colorado University, and California University are worried that will give Universities a bad rap. But, plans are still in motion for students to yet meet at 420 today to “light up” but they don’t plan to stick around to wait to get arrested.
Even today’s laws on marijuana are all over the place, when trying to smoke it and or using it for medical purposes.
You can even find on Craig’s list where smokers are looking for friendly 420 room mates.
So whether your fighting to stop it or if you decide to light up today at 4:20. We as a people have our rights. And until government or the people fight to change them 420 meeting spots will remain a secret.
