SPRINGFIELD – Super Bowl 50 2016 was held on Sunday Feb. 7 on CBS. The teams that went head to head on the field were the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. This year’s Super Bowl was held in Santa Clara, CA.
The Super Bowl started off with singer/songwriter Lady Gaga singing the Star-Spangled Banner. She did an amazing job. After her performance the U.S. Navy Blue Angels flew over the stadium. Now for the game to begin.
Both teams came onto the field for the coin toss. The Panthers won the coin toss and they deferred to give the Broncos the ball first. In the first quarter the score was 0 – 3 Broncos. Broncos Brandon McManus made a 34 yard field goal. Broncos got another touchdown by Malik Jackson. The Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera threw the challenge flag for the ruling on the field of an incomplete pass for the Panthers by Jerricho Cotchery which they lost.
In the second quarter Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart made a touchdown, making the score 6 – 10 Broncos with the time being 11:25. At the time 6:58 Broncos McManus made a 23 yard field goal. Making the score 7 – 13 Broncos.
The halftime show was up next having Coldplay being the headlining act, with special guest Beyoncé and Bruno Mars. Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin started signing on the field with fans running up to football lookalike stage. The band opened up with “Yellow”, and “Viva La Vida”, with very colorful stage and attire. Martin got really close with the crowd and kept things up beat. They then sang “Paradise” with fireworks going off and they also performed their new hit “Adventure of a Lifetime”.
Next up on stage was Bruno Mars singing “Uptown Funk” with DJ Mark Ronson. After that the camera transitioned on the field with Beyoncé singing “Formation”. Beyoncé and Bruno Mars had a dance battle with their dancers and a sing-off with “Uptown Funk” and “Crazy in Love” and then the pair both joined Chris Martin. Coldplay sang “Clocks” and Martin sang U2’s “Beautiful day” at the piano while the stage showed a montage of Super Bowl performances from the past. While Coldplay, Beyoncé, and Bruno Mars sang together it ended with the whole audience holding colorful place cards spelling out love.
In the third quarter with the time at 8:18 Brandon McManus made another field goal. The Panthers didn’t score.
In the fourth quarter at 10:41 Panthers kicked a field goal by Gano at the 39 yard line. At the time of 3:08 Broncos made a touchdown and went for the 2 point conversion.
Making the score 10 – 24 Broncos as the final score with the time 00:11. Broncos won the Super Bowl. Peyton Manning being the quarterback for the Broncos said “I’m going to kiss my wife, and kids, and I’m going to drink a lot of Budweiser tonight.”
Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was very upset when he was interviewed. The interviewer asked what’s your message to panther’s fans. And Newton said “We’ll be back.” The interviewer also asked Newton to put into words the disappointment you feel right now? And Newton said “We lost.” Then asking how he was feeling right now with losing the Super Bowl 50 Newton said “I’m done.” Newton got sacked 6 times in the game with Von Miller given the MVP for Super Bowl 50.
