SPRINGFIELD – This month, LLCC is hosting a homecoming through the week of Feb. 22 and Feb. 24. This year’s homecoming is set to be a fun time, complete with homecoming week events, such as free food, games and cool prizes.
I asked Student Engagement Coordinator Marie Watson some questions regarding more information about this year’s homecoming.
The Lamp: What is the theme of this homecoming?
Marie Watson: The theme this year is Logger Pride. We decided to have more of a focus on the actual purpose of homecoming which is to develop a sense of pride and connection to Lincoln Land and our athletics. We are the Lincoln Loggers and so we want to be able to emphasize that in our Homecoming Festivities.
TL: What will be at the homecoming that students can look forward too?
MW: For the week of Homecoming student will look forward to free food, games and swag on both February 22 and 23. We are having walking tacos on Monday along with a basketball shoot game and green screen photo booth. Tuesday will consist of fudge puppies, photo booth, and Airbrush Tattoos!
To end Homecoming, we will have the men and women’s basketball game on the evening of Wednesday February 24, we will be presenting the homecoming court at the women’s halftime game and crowning the king and queen at the men’s halftime game.
We will also be giving the opportunity to a lucky Lincoln Land student the chance to win an iPad Mini in a basketball shootout contest. We will have 3 contestants compete for the prize.
TL: Are you expecting a higher attendance this year?
MW: We are definitely hoping for a high attendance to the basketball games on Wednesday. We have made an effort to really put emphasis on encouraging students to attend the games and show their logger pride.
TL: Is there an admission price?
MW: There is no admissions price for Lincoln Land Community College faculty, staff, and students.
I went to last year’s homecoming and I had so much fun, the dance was nice, the food tasted delicious and the photo booth was fun, so I know this year’s homecoming activities will be fun to enjoy as well.
