Edin Mehmodovic had 15 points and six rebounds to help Lincoln Land Community College’s men’s basketball team defeat Hannibal-LaGrange, 62-42.
Eddie Longmeyer also added 13 points for LLCC.
This was the Loggers’ first home game of the season, but, like the team’s other two games this season, it took them a few minutes to accommodate to the opposing team’s defense.
“We continue to struggle early on, and that is something we have to figure out,” said LLCC head coach Chad Jones. “We can’t continue to come out of the gate slow, or we will be out of games (in the season) before we get a chance.”
Lincoln Land shot 39 percent from the court in the game. It shot 26 percent in the first half.
Despite that, the Loggers out-rebounded the Trojans 39-31, while forcing 15 steals.
Josh Pickett, Hannibal-LaGrange’s head coach, attributes LLCC’s style of play and willingness to set many screens in the game to his team’s loss.
“Not many junior colleges play like Lincoln Land does,” said Pickett, who graduated from John Wood Community College in 2005. John Wood commonly plays against LLCC’s basketball team, so Pickett said he knew what to expect from his opponents.
“So far we have been able to figure things out well enough to win,” Jones said. “But we are going to have to keep getting better down the road.”
