SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College’s women’s basketball team missed all 16 of its 3-point shots, as the team lost 75-64 to Southeastern Illinois College on Dec. 10.
“Going 0 for 16 was tough on us, offensively,” Lincoln Land’s head coach Gary Albert said.
Logger Gretchen Hobbie led the team with 11 rebounds and a season-high 21 points. (Click here for the game’s box score)
Southeastern’s freshmen guards Bria Bethea (20) and Sheree English (22) had a combined 42 points. English also had a season-high 13 rebounds.
“She (English) was great,” Falcons coach Jack Trosper said after the game. “She has been doing that all year.”
English is averaging 11.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game this season.
Southeastern led the entire game after starting on a 27-5 run in the first eight minutes. The Hawks opened the game using a full-court press defense, contributing to the Loggers’ 12 turnovers in the first half.
“We came out lackadaisically,” Albert said. “We were prepared for what they (Southeastern) were going to do. We just didn’t execute.”
Lincoln Land had several streaks in which it cut its deficit to six points (twice), but the Hawks countered by going on several scoring runs.
“They (Lincoln Land) would make a move, then we would make a move,” Trosper said.
The Loggers have lost four of their last five games. They are now 5-8.
Their next game will be against Illinois Central College at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 in Cass Gym.
